our father wishes

we were born calves


Do my nerves misfire Or

do the leaves in the corn field

cling and cut at once


Yield can mean money

or tenderness, but

often money


How many


bushels of soybeans

How many,

many pounds of meat


Singular, among summer

wheat: a stalk of corn

called a volunteer in spite

of the farmer


The only yield is the yielding

I plan to do
