HANNAH STOLL (b. 1997, NYC) is an oil painter and current MFA Candidate at Boston University’s graduate painting program. Her recent works on canvas and paper explore moments through the lens of their psychological impact. Utilizing many thin layers of paint and subtractive drawing techniques, Stoll shares her fascination with color relationships and expressive linework. Her paintings are imaginative translations of memories, and her compositions range from singular sources of feeling to complex and active narratives. Stoll graduated from Colorado College in 2020 with a BA in organismal biology and ecology. Shortly thereafter she took up a painting studio practice in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley while apprenticing for several local artists and non-profits, including Anderson Ranch Arts Center (Snowmass, CO), Red Brick Center for the Arts (Aspen, CO), The Art Base (Basalt, CO) and The Project Shop (Carbondale, CO). She participated in a number of group exhibitions across the state. Stoll’s solo exhibitions Prospects (R2 Gallery, Carbondale, CO) and Together in the Dark (The Art Base, Basalt, CO) took place in 2022 and 2023, respectively. In 2023 she became a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant and attended the GlogauAir artist residency (Berlin). Stoll is currently part of Boston University’s MFA in painting class of 2025.
